Electronic Shruthi Box

A little break away from my thursday bhajanai….

I have been learning music from a very long time now…..about 15 to 16 years. I knew that I never had the knowledge…or in born talent or whatever u call that. But this time…I was totally disappointed with myself.
I had to get this electronic sruthi box for my hubby’s cousin. We got to the shop and ….

The guy asks which type do u want….tambura or harmonium. I promptly say tambura….isn’t it obvious…it sounds great. Then he tells me an exorbitant price.
I ask him if he has anything much cheaper…..he shows another one for half the price…..and that was the harmonium sound….and guess what….that’s what I had been using all these years.

When I got an electronic sruthi box…my teacher got it for me. I had no idea that there were two types that existed.
That shop keeper tells me that if you have crossed 5 years of learning time….then its time to go for tambura sruthi. He also had some types where there were knobs for manual tuning. It was like a test. U put on a sruthi and then tune the knobs manually to match it. Then you click on a button to see if you were right.
This improves your listening power and concentration on the pitch.
I also felt that the sound of the tambura is so pleasing to hear when compared to the harmonium sruthi box….

I felt really bad…I have learnt music for so long and I dint know this basic stuff….anyways…better late than never.
