we have been talking a lot about janya ragams and melakartha ragams….I thought it is time to exactly describe how this melakarha number comes up.
If you have the ganamrutha bodhini book you will find the details at the begining of the book where theory is given (atleast it is there in the varnam book and I expect that it would be there in all the ganamrutha bodhini books).

A song that I came across by chance…. I was browsing for some ragas and came across this song on one of the websites and listened to it. Was good. I kind of also guessed the ragam to be hindolam…which it wasn’t….but it was chandrakauns.
Somehow I liked the song and decided to learn it…

my teacher was quite surprised to know that I had not learnt this before…it seems this is one of the songs learnt at very early stages…anyways…I am learning it now..

I am not a great talent in music…so finding the ragam of a song by just listening to it is something that amazes me. To me, these people who can do this…are geniuses…..

I have always wanted to listen to a song and then say… this is this ragam…this has got a connection to this one etc etc etc…but that seems to be quite a far of dream for me…
However…I did achieve something…an achievement in my own terms for the goals that I set for myself….
This song brings back so many memories…..
When we were kids, my cousin Ramya taught us this song. She had learnt songs in a lot of languages when she was in Gujarat. She also taught us the dance for this…It seems very funny now…but back then…we all badly wanted to learn it…
Of course…expect for Bharathy and Vinod who always made fun of us (Sangu, Arthi, Priya and me)
