Thaye yashoda

A beautiful song in thodi raagam…..

Thaye Yashoda…have been wanting to learn this song from a very long time.

A tamil song. composed by Oothukkadu Venkata Subbaier.

wonderful song with simple meaning
I got the lyrics from http://www.musicindiaonline.com/lr/1/955/

But I found that what Sudha Ragunathan sang in the audio was a little differently worded…got to check out..but for now this is ok I guess

Thodi

I am currently learning…or rather re-learning (because I have learnt it once from my teachers long long ago) the thodi varnam from my music teacher.
did a little knowledge gathering on this ragam and this is what I found;

It is a melakartha ragam….with melakartha number as 8
Now with our explanation in the previous posts…if we take thodi…we cannot arrive at 8 as the number…
the actual name of the ragam is hanumathodi…now if you try the numbering system you will find 8

Paarkadal alai mele

I was watching my old dance videos…..yes… I was a bharathnatyam dancer and I loved it. It meant more than how much music meant to me…somehow…due to so many reasons that was faced out of my life…
But the video got me nostalgic and started looking on the internet for some of the songs for which there were dances.
One of my favorites in the dances was the dasavatharam dance…the song for it was paarkadal alai mele. I wanted that song…and yes…internet is my paradise…I got it..

Ghita

I came across this song Ghita. This is sung by a 3 year old romanian girl…very cute. I loved it.It has a mix of english and romanian language (i guess)…
you can get the english version here http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=z-r8vzv6Rmg

Bramham okkate

This is one song that i liked from a long time. I always knew it was Telgu but never ha dthe words. I first heard it over TV when Unni Krishnan sang it in some program.
Like I have always said…I love peppy songs…I also somehow like the meaning of this song.

The song is composed in raagam bowli which is the same as shriman narayana…
This was one of the first songs which I could kind of figure out the raagam by listening to the song. So I have an extra liking to this song:)

Bowli is mayamalagowla(15th melakartha) janya

Graha bedam

Again some gyan pertaining to raagam;
I am still not clear if shruthi bedam and graha bedam are the same things….as my source of info is the internet …I am getting variety of opinions. But for now I plan to go by the conviction that they are both the same.
basically here we can change one ragam into another…
and how is that done?
by graha bedam….
you more from one octave to the next and you get the new raagam ….you are singing in one sruthi…you go to the next sruthi level….
and do we do it randomly…No…

Misra ragam

What is a misra ragam?
I have been wondering a lot about this. I still dont have a very good exeplanation for it. But theoritically this is what it is:
we have a ragam with its actual swarams…to give it a better feel and a little less carnatic touch…somtitmes for some raagams some other swarams are mixed…hence the ragam becomes a mixed ragam which is a misra ragam…
basically the ragam is not having some other swrams in it and hence is not the pure form of itself.
Just the basic meaning….
