Thodi

I am currently learning…or rather re-learning (because I have learnt it once from my teachers long long ago) the thodi varnam from my music teacher.
did a little knowledge gathering on this ragam and this is what I found;

It is a melakartha ragam….with melakartha number as 8
Now with our explanation in the previous posts…if we take thodi…we cannot arrive at 8 as the number…
the actual name of the ragam is hanumathodi…now if you try the numbering system you will find 8

Aa:S R1 G2 M1 P D1 N2 S
Av:S N2 D1 P M1 G2 R1 S
it is supposed to be a ragam that expresses a lot of melody and emotion. A very soothing raagam

One very funny thing…the Hindustani equivalent of thodi is bhairavi thath…but hindustani thodi is not same as carnatic thodi….
the equivalent of hinductani thodi is shubhapanthuvarali….
funny ways to confuse people

there are some varients of this raagam also. If the P is ommitted then it becomes shudha thodi.If the R is ommitted in the aarohanam scale then it becomes deshya thodi..

nice ragam…I am loving it:)
