Another kannada composition.
Interestingly, I found a lot of different versions of the lyrics…..I also found the song in 2 different raagams…

This is the one that Yesudas sang in the kutcheri.
It is a Purandaradasa composition. Very nice song.
Now a little about the raagam
I remember having explained this raagam in one of my posts previously….but I still would do it here again as this is one of my favourites.
Pantuvarali is also known as Kamavardhini or Kashiraamakriya (in Dikshitar mela system)
It is a melakartha raagam. We have all this while been talking of janya raagams.
This raagam is the 51st melakartha raagam itself.

Av: S N3 D1 P M2 G3 R1 S
The famous film song ezhu swrangalukkul ethanai paadal is composed in this raagam
The Hindustani equivalent of this song is poorvi that.
This raagam differs from the mayamalavagowla just by the madhyamam. Here we use prathi madhyamam.
