One of the first ragams that we learn when we start with varnams is Mohanam. a simple ragam…but beautiful one. This song is also a beautiful composition of Muthuswamy Dikshitar in Mohanam.
This is the last song I learnt from Mami…..one of my greatest gurus…the lady who actually taught me that what i was doing initially was not called singing 
Strangely… I see that karnatik.com says it is a Janya ragam from Harikambhoji (28th melakartha). But I have always learnt that it is derived from Shankarabharanam.

( precious jewel stone). Killer of demon Kamsa. Has sweet spoken tongue. Giver of supreme wealth. Adored by all endless vedas. Prayed by Lord of demigods. Keeps Lord Shanmukha happy.
