Rasa….in a raagam
I have described various different raagams in many of the songs that I have reviewed. I have sometimes mentioned that certain raagams are associated with a certain rasa….
This blog post is to throw a little light on this aspect of raagam…
Rasa is related to emotions….when I say the rasa associated with a raagam, I mean, the emotion that the raagam brings out.
Each raaagam is said to bring out certain emotions or feelings in the audience…there are stories where people have sung some raagams to get the rains to pour….there are raagams that can make you cry…or some that can put you to sleep.
There are 9 different types of rasa …they are(along with some example raagams associated with the rasa)
Sringara à love àKalyaani, Kamaas
Veera à valour à Bilahari, Hamsadwani
Karuna à sympathy à Kaanada
Raudra à anger à aarabhi
Bhayanaka à Fearfulness à punnagavaraali
Bhibhatsa à disgust à ataana
Hasya à humour à kedaram, mohanam, hamsadwani
Adbhutha à wonder à saaranga
Shanthi à peace à vasanta
One raagam can be associated with more than one rasa sometimes…..
That was just a little information that I know about this important aspect of raagams.
