This Sunday…. I was debating with myself about attending the Sai bhajans at Sai Kuteer at Marathalli. I finally decided that I would go for it. I was running late and so I reached there just on time for the bhajans.
There were a lot of sooper dressed ladies…. I wondered what could be the occasion and asked one of them. She said that they were the nightingale singers group. I then remembered that they had announced the special program the previous week.
The bhajans started and lasted for about 30 minutes. Then the program by the nightingale singers started.
To be frank…. I really dint expect expert performance from them….Not sure why…just dint feel so.
They started with a harmony in Om chanting….they had the low and high pitch chanted together….it was good…. I started enjoying it right that moment….
They started with a beautiful ganesha Bhajans and then a guru song… It is very difficult to have a group singing in classical is what I feel….every note needs to match as there are a lot of nuances in carnatic music. It is not like light music where the nuances are not very pronounced.
They continued with Sriman narayana…. Then they sang a beautiful Tamil song ….velan yezhaiamma….a beautiful composition…. Only problem is that I could not find that song enywhere on the internet.
Then came a maheshwara song and then a bhajan composed by one of the persons in the Samithi. This guy who was the composer of the song was also playing the keyboard for all the other songs sung by the ladies….there was also Tabla being played.
I forgot to mention…. 9 ladies sang the songs together…. Beautiful performance, I am not any great artist or so… I am not a great music talent that I can rate someone else’s performance…but as an audience…my ear felt pleased…they made be forget myself and listen to the rhythm of the song whilst I thought only of the lord and nothing else. I think that serves the purpose…..
It was 7:35Pm and was getting late. So I left … I thought I will find these ladies on the internet and may be get a mail id or something…but unfortunately… I am unable to get any info on the internet. I hope someone who reads this post is able to help me with some contacts to the nightingale singers and also maybe about the song ‘velan yezhaimmma’.
