Saturday was a full day out for me with students at Mithra Jyothi, an organization for the blind. Agenda for the outing was…..
1. Taking a bus to the Minto hospital and getting all the students certification of blindness
2. Going to the KSRTC an drailway pass places and getting the passes done
3. Getting back to Mithra Jyothi
We were 3 volunteers, 2 trainers and 22 blind students….
It was a very interesting experience for me as this was the first outing of its kind for me. We took all the students by BMTC (local transport) buses…..buses being crowded with no place to sit and sometimes even to stand….
The hospital certification procedure being too lengthy and cumbersome….
It was a great learning experience for me….of many things…..like …
one can be confident in life irrespective of problems one might have
I can actually do much more in life than I am already doing
anyone can become friends
you can talk about all the problems as though it was just nothing at all
complaining never helps
pity is the worst of things that can be giving to someone else
…..also I learnt some more about the irritating inefficient procedures at all our government offices…..railways being one of the major places…
That was quite a lot to learn in one day…. I hope the learning stays in my head and I use it for making myself a better person.
We could manage only to get the certificates done. The passes were pending and it was already very late in the evening and we could not get them…..
However, it was still an eventful day….. a day in my life that made me feel finally I was of some use to someone……
All the friends I made…. All the students who asked me to come back to the school next week…. All those people who actually made me feel wanted…..they will make a big difference in my life. Hats off to all the blind students there….I have seen nothing like that in my life…… at least never encountered it so close and deep. They have left a lasting impression on me.

Enjoyed reading this post very much. Hope you continue to keep in touch with people who are generally marginalized by our culture and society…
