Seemandham is such a nice ceremony actually performed to make sure that the baby to be born comes out healthy, calm and strong minded.
unfortunately everyone does it as a formality ….. many of them are irritated doing it…..some of them want to have it as a get-together party…..some of them just do it to show off their status….
This also shows why the seemandham is not performed for any child after the 1st one…
Why?…dont we want out second child to also be strong and healthy…???
No one knows why they are doing something….and so they do it as someone else does and so on….
Maybe doing a full fledged seemandham for more than once costs a lot and etc etc….but if one really cares about the second baby….they should do at least the major parts…
The udaga shanthi matram is available as cd. We can buy is and play it….the sound of this what makes the baby’s mind strong….
We really don’t need to invite 100 guests and have a pompous ceremony for this…we can still make sure that we give our best to the second child also….

I totally agree with you… but as to people’s motivations…sometimes they hide the reasons from themselves as well as from others!
But if someone sincerely do not believe in the rites and rituals, why can that person not skip them? It’s a matter of personal choice…but that is rarely allowed in our society!

Yes Vidhya. I fully endorse your view/s. The party mentality should go and function/s such as these should be performed with due reverence and religious fervour. But what we generally observe is that there is a feeling of fellowship and gossip among the invitees discussing mundane things. Of course, it is an opportunity for people to meet all their old friends/ relatives and acquaintances who come from far and wide under one umbrella but the camaraderie could be had outside the Hall, may be after the religious ceremony is over instead of creating cacophony inside the precincts of the venue thereby marring the sanctity of the proceedings. To obviate this malaise, I feel putting up of chairs in the Hall may be done away with as it is this arrangement that causes people to sit and gossip for hours on end. This will compel people who are not interested in the religious rites to go out and chat with each other to their hearts’ content. I hope I am not sounding too harsh or dogmatic.
